My name is Rachel Mauro, and the best way to describe me is as a writer.
I recently completed a Master’s program in Journalism, courtesy of the University of Maryland, College Park. While there, I enrolled in both traditional and multimedia classes, which helped me to hone my writing skills and gain some experience in utilizing photography, video and sound.
I also have a Bachelor’s in English from Washington College where I was granted permission to write a novel-thesis on Jewish American issues. You can read more about my work and school experiences here.
Writing about the diversity of Jewish culture and politics is one of my passions and why I chose to intern at a wire service, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, last year. While there, I covered a number of press events including news conferences with former President Jimmy Carter, Sen. Hilary Clinton, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and the Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Now my goal is to work directly with the Jewish organizations that make a difference in the community.
Currently, I maintain two blogs; Spring Awakening, where I comment on matters of religious and cultural interest, and JewishDC, which chronicles a sampling of activities put out by Jewish organizations in the Greater Washington area. For more of my writing samples, click here.
